This British 1 pound coin was minted in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It features on its reverse a design inspired by the British flag, with a red cross on a white background and four lions representing the different parts of the United Kingdom. Above the drawing, we find the Latin motto "DECUS ET TUTAMEN" which means "Glory and Protection". The obverse of the coin depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who has been the head of the British monarchy since 1952. The piece is made of nickel and brass, with a diameter of 22.5 millimeters and a thickness of 3.15 millimeters. It weighs 9.5 grams and has a fluted edge.
