Antique Gilt Bronze Clock, Philippe Mourey (1840-1910) - 19th Century French - TheRedshop
This exceptional 19th century French piece, signed by Philippe Mourey (1840-1910). It is a magnificent-gilded bronze clock, carved with an impressive level of detail, as evidenced by the photos. The ornaments are simply sumptuous, with finials adorned with heads, two goddesses who seem to lift the monument, majestic columns and graceful caryatids under the finials that support the body of the clock. At the top of this centerpiece sits a magnificent sculpture in red, adding a touch of color and refinement. Porcelain numerals and engraved Roman letters add to the elegance of this clock. It perfectly embodies the Louis XVI style of the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, and the case stamped "pH. Mourey 67" and the serial number "226" on the back attest to this. You will also find an enigmatic inscription: "15 F V" on the head of the sun and "V F" on the base, adding a touch of mystery to this timepiece. Philippe Mourey, a French artist renowned for his sculptures, has left his mark on this work of watchmaking art.
